What is Sojourners?
The Sojourners ministry is a Christian community organized around mutual prayer and the contemplative spiritual formation practices. Together, participants gather in small cohorts to learn, follow and encourage one another in these practices on a consistent basis for the purpose of inner transformation and compassionate service in the world.
Why be part of a Contemplative community?
We live in a time of social and spiritual upheaval today. We are being bombarded by different voices trying to influence every second of our lives. As humanity becomes more distracted by the external world, there is very little room left for examining our inner world. How do we learn to shut out the external world and enter the quiet place within our souls to find safe refuge with the Lord? The Christian contemplative practices can train us in how to do this very thing. Doing this in community, we begin to learn the rhythms of retreating to our “inner room” to abide with Christ. Then we can return to the world with a renewed spirit ready to serve and give to others from the overflow of God’s.
What does a Sojourner cohort look like?
Each cohort is a group of ideally no more than 10 people in order to preserve the ability for everyone to maintain a close connection with each other.
Each cohort member commits to meeting together for at least one semester under the guidance of a trained facilitator and following the spiritual practices consistently.
Cohorts meet on a weekly basis in person and online for teaching sessions, contemplative prayer and mutual encouragement.
